TGIF, a little secret and just a happy post :)

Its Friday. Can you believe it? I’m happy though. I always look forward to the weekends. There used to be a time in my life when I loathed weekends. My person life was spinning out of control and I hated to be home with my thoughts. I resorted to food for comfort, as a way of rebellion and out of complete helplessness. Mentally, I was a mess and physically I was driving myself towards another disaster. Nearly five years later. I am still paying for the abuse I threw at my body, in terms of the five star (candy) bars I used to devour in the dead of the night!

Despite knowing how badly overeating hurts me, I still find myself reverting to my old habits. The only argument in my favour is that I snap out of it pretty fast. Like this time after vacation eating, I went right back into exercise mode.

I have signed up to have a personal trainer at my gym. Let me promise you, it costs a bomb. But can I whisper a little secret – Oh my God! I love it. My body demands and craves for exercise. After an hour of a combination of squats, lunges, pull ups, crunches and other exercises, I feel awesome, stronger and happier. And all that hard work keeps my eating in check too.

I have found that I make better food related choices and decisions when I exercise. Its possibly the thinking that when I’m working so hard, I should not mess up by eating a bakery goodie. Or may be it’s the endorphins?

Anyway, I really wanted to share my experience with exercise, with those who are trying to lose weight in some part of their life. What is your experience with working out? Lemme know. Or do a post and leave me a link J.

Addressing my rants.

Remember my rants all of last week? Well, it appears that my body was doing some adjustments. Noteworthy things that happened this week:

·         The scale has begun to show lower numbers. So much for my fight!
·         I had ONLY ONE mint Oreo (the real one, not the bad stuff Britannia sells in India) from an entire packet that the husband bought and devoured by himself.
·         I took only one sip from the large coke that the husband got free for buying movie tickets using Citibank card. I trashed the rest, and the popcorn. It makes me bloated. I’m proud of myself.
·         I also had only half a californian cookie, out of the three varieties that the husband bought at cookie man. (do you see a trend? The husband is beginning to grow the devil’s horns? And I have displayed great strength at resisting food)
·         I have, this first week of November December, kept at adhering to my monthly goals. So, food & exercise journal is going good, as is added evening exercise twice a week.
·         The inches are going on my lower body, which allays my fear that I was losing weight only on the top.

Moral of the story: I’m too good.

Nah. But seriously, all that it takes to say NO to a large coke calling out my name that pre-planned decision to say NO. Believe me, it was not this easy the last time. But I have been persistent.

The Weekend Update

Whoooosh!! Did you hear that? That was the sound of last week going by. And I almost did not feel it.
I remember being in college, when all my friends had a boy-friend, there were days which I thought got stuck in the freezer. Those were days, I’d spend walking vigorously because otherwise, I would not be able to sleep at night. Marriage has thankfully given me a loving husband and a beautiful baby. And hence, I wonder if time just got eaten by a time eating monster.
The last weekend, was spent in some compulsive bread eating that I indulged in. Yep - read it right. We bought a lovely fresh multi grain loaf at Breadworks on Lavelle road.  It had a nutty flavor contributed by flax seeds and pumpkin seeds, I think. Just a bite, and my mind seemed to meditate on the ways and means of consuming the entire loaf. I also had, decent if not large servings of rice for dinner on Saturday and lunch on Sunday. The surprise was however that we went to an engagement ceremony on Sunday night, at which I ate nothing but a cup of coffee, but of course returned home to hunt down the last of the remaining bread.
So that is a good thing about shopping sensibly. When I have no rubbish to eat at home, even the worst thing I can do to myself is overeat healthy stuff, which is far better than polishing off sweets or fried snacks. And hence there has been no weight gain. Just a tiny bit lost.
On the exercise front, Saturday I did a high intensity work out on my elliptical. Yesterday, I woke up with a headache. I did not want to do much. But I did a good half hour of Pilates. The effect of which, was that this morning, I woke up to achy-breaky thighs, and hit the elliptical again. So far, so good.
Getrim has become intolerable again though I only replace 2 meals a week with it. I vow not to buy another box. My refrigerator is stocked up with lots of veggies and the grocery shopping included many varieties of dried beans. So, many of my meals are planned in my head to ensure a good week ahead. And suddenly, I have begun to take pleasure in these little achievements. I feel a wee bit more in control.

On today with Chittu

Today has been a very "excity" day for the little Chittu. He cried like hell, laughed a lot and is now finally asleep in his cozy little thooli*. The day for me the mommy has been great. It is very gratifying indeed to be home with the baby ALL the time. And though at times I get very moody and all itsy-plitsy about not being able to even read the newspaper somedays, on the whole, it is rather fulfilling to be with the little fellow, as in physically, with him, at his every waking moment.

He is a little under five months of age and loves the brightey-bright colours, also loves conversations with people who nod their head and have animated expressions. He loves to stand by the gate of his grandparents' home, watching passers by. He calls out to them, smiles some times, squeals in excitement some other times or just intently observes. He hold his rattles when handed to him, and tries his best to put it in his mouth so he can chew.  He has not yet rolled over from lying on his back, and though there is worried me, I have not yet decided to hit the panic button.I love to watch the little fellow sleep. Fists closed,  legs in an < > position, the random smile... I can see a dynamite in the making.

I love this time with him, and cannot explain how much cheery my days have become...I do not know what tomorrow has in store for me, but I must confess, my today has been good, well beyond my expectation.

Happy, Happy!!!!

Hello!!!

This is my all new, fresh canvass. I quit the old one because there were too many prying eyes on it.

I begin with no old baggage, but with a little bundle of joy- Chittu- that made his way into my life roughly 4 months back. My time now, is mostly his. Work, has taken long leave of absence, until Chittu is on solids. And my erstwhile worrisome life has turned for the better. The scientist (husband) and I cannot stop being amazed at his every sound and smile. It is truly magical.

I hope the magic stays on :)

Happy, happy!!!!
