10k Race Recap - Kaveri Trail Marathon 2012

I did the 10 k guys!! Ofcourse I expected fireworks and bells and cheers and hoots. They all came alive in my mind, the moment I finished, and ring each time I think about it , after! The feeling of accomplishment is awesome, the trail was simply marvellous, running along side the River Kaveri is meditative and  so enjoyable. The sound of the gurgling water, chirping birds and the ocassional chatter of the farmers in the field, is a priceless experience, and I am glad I could do it that day. After fracturing both feet and staying almost immobile for two months, I know how to appreciate the ability to run. Yes, I weighed 80 kilograms, am still on the border of obesity, but  I did run, and enjoyed it.

Now for the not so good part: Exactly as I feared I was last to finish.  Because... ladies and gentlemen, I was the last to start. I was 40 minutes late to the race. Can you believe it??? I possibly reached when the fastest runner was almost done! No, I did not wake up late, but the issue was the Scientist, trusted me with the map. We had lost our way before we knew it, and circled about 60 extra kilometres. Ofcourse, I was so mad at the Scientist, because he was the only other person I could probably vent on. Anyway, when I cooled down. I decided to run if the organisers actually let me run. And they did. So I did a solo run. Just me running and the Kaveri. It was a great experience.

The first kilometre mark seemed like it would never come, but it did:

And then I ran as much as could and walked as little as I could, refueled at the water stations and looked at the Kaveri, and the paddy fields and then I saw this:

See the Kaveri in the back??? Is this not gorgeous?

And then I finished the race and got this:
It says: Finisher - KTM 2012.. who would know I only did a 10k?

The Scientist did not meet me at the finish line, much to my dismay, so I don't have a finishing picture like I would have expected to have. But I guess the race organisers took some. I will share when I get them.

My timing was pretty decent : I completed the 10k in about 80 minutes. That's my best speed as yet!

That was the race recap, guys. I rested on Sunday to let my achy knees heal, and hit the gym this morning to get an intense half hour of cardio. I am planning on continuing running for a while. My aim would be to do a half marathon, because, will you believe it - I did not feel sufficiently challenged by a 10k? I think 21.1k will cut the deal for me. But before that I am contemplating registering for this: the Bangalore Ultra - 12.5 k in early November. Thats another trail race! Any others interested?

But I need to lose some weight by then. Sigh!!!!I am off to Chennai tonight, for some wedding preparations. I hope to get in some biking/ running tomorrow morning. I will update my workout page, to show!
