Half Marathon Training - Week 8 Recap

I have officially signed up for the Kaveri Trail - Half Marathon to be held on 15th September 2013 at a very scenic location near Bangalore. It is known to be one of the finest trail races in this part of the world :) Anyone wants to run this as well? The registrations are fast closing!

I have been on a 13 week modified version of the Hal Higdon plan in preparation for the race. It requires 6 days of exercise and 1 day rest in a week. It also calls for atleast 3 running days - of which lately I have run only 2 a week. One is to be a long run, which I do on Sundays when other people want to kind of just chill out!!!

Week 8 - the workouts:

  • I exercised 6 out of 7 days - 3 days of carido ( 2 days running) and 3 days strength
  • The weekday run - a 7.2 km run - I was feeling pretty good!
  • The long run on Sunday a planned 13k was ruined by a very very painful metatarsal toe joint on the left foot. I still ran about 12k before the pain got unbearable.
  • I did 3 strength workouts including - JM's No More Trouble Zone, Yoga Melt Down and Level 2 of the 30 day shred
  • I am feeling really strong muscles
The food:

  • Even though I have not been able to run as frequently as before, I continued to eat slightly higher carb food - adding a cup of rice at lunch (sometimes even 2) and an added roti at dinner
  • Another reason I continued to eat like that is because of some stomach issues which I was having
  • There were also meals outside and ice cream in addition to some unnecessary chocolate - totally avoidable!
The weight

  • I have been weighing in around 77 kg - that means a gain of atleast 2 kg
  • More eating + more strength training + lesser running = weight gain! Boo!
  • Higher the weight = Slower running! Double boo!
The Pain:
  • Knee pain has been kept fairly at bay thanks to proper stretching
  • The new kid on the block is the pain below the toe :) and I am yet to see the doctor

  1. Go see a doctor asap. You can never be too careful. As for the walk, congo. I have signed up for a 5k walk too,all inspired by you walkers. Mine is virtual though. Great. And the weight must be all muscles? That is great.
